Description of Persona:
Physical: Thorpan stands 5'7 slightly hunched over, and walks with a cane though he insists he doesn't need it. Its only for "whipping beastly children". He has a head of neatly combed grey hair and is missing one tooth on the top left side.
Emotional: Grumpy old man. Thorpan doesn't like anybody, or anything, especially children and flits. He despises their non-sensible joyfulness and troublemaking capabilities. He'd drop the whole lot of 'um /between/ if he could. He caries a cane with him at all times to help with his bad knee but finds it useful in dealing with outspoken and particulalrly beastly apprentices. Thorpan is rather pessimistic. Bring up the dragonriders and he'll tell you straight out that they haven't got half the sense of a wherry, and that Pern is likely to end at any second as long as those ipertinent dragon-folk are left in charge. But he's like that towards pretty much everyone, women are overly-emotional tunnel snakes, and all men are lazy bums these days. And although he detests flits he has one of his own which was gifted to him while visiting a northern Lord Holder. He reluctantly accepted his hosts offer, (though he fiercely despises all northerners), and impressed what he called a "disgusting-repulsive-stomach-turning-gut-wrenching-ugly-deformed-stinkin g-germ-ridden-blood-sucking-nose-picking-sharding-wherry-skinned-beast-of-a-cr eature". But Thorpan lovingly refers to his own as just plain Creature, and all things said and done, he does love his brown flit. Just in the privacy of his quarters where no one can see it. Strangely enough he can't stand to be alone, he must always have company though he tries to make them as angry as possible and he doesn't mind pulling rank if they start to get rude back to him or move to leave. Thorpan is not the most pleasant person to be around but most people learn to live with him, tolerate, and ignore ... lest they be smacked repeatedly and with his cane
History: Born somewhere way-back-when, is all he says, nothing else matters because he despises everything about childhood. And if he lives a few more decades he'll likely start claiming he was never a child at all, which is just as well. The first thing he'll admit to is being a journeyman at the age of 15, certainly far more mature than the little beasts they have these days. Thorpan was searched once, during the interval but wisely declined, and barely escaped capture by a searchrider and his overly zealous dragon. But even that young he knew his place was the Harper Hall and not riding about on some giant winged tunnelsnake. Walking the tables to Sr. Journeyman a decade and a half later he met a suitable woman, who was good enough, but just barely. He espoused Lanpaxa , and they had two children, a son Thorpax, and a daughter Paxa. Shortly after he made his Mastership his son was searched and was stolen away by the vicious weyr, where he impressed a brown. When they came for Paxa however, he put his foot down, Lanpaxa protested it was her daughters choice and ultimately left Thorpan moving north. Paxa who'd always tolerated her father stayed and pleased him by quickly rising to journeywoman. Years later he visited the north to possibly take assignment in a rather large hold, however, he quickly offended the Lord Holder by telling him how horrible he and all other northerners were. Needless to say his craftmaster reprimanded him and told him to comply with whatever the Lord Holder requested. The Lady Holder, being very clever suggested that her husband gift the harper with a flit egg, knowing how openly he despised teh creatures. Thorpan had no choice but to comply, he impressed and quickly sought refuge in the mud hole he called home and others called southern continent. He has vowed never to leave southern again and resides in the harper hall with his daughter Paxa, pestering apprentices and being the grumpy old man everyone knows him to be.
