History

During the tenth interval, AIVAS stopped functioning. Everyone thought that the Ninth pass expedition to the Red Star had worked, only one pass later than expected. So, there was a one thousand year interval, and the number of dragons greatly diminished. None of the original stone Weyrs were inhabited any more. Nearly all riders and holderfolk alike moved down to the Southern Continent because it was much more fertile than the worn northern soil.

While all this was happening, the experimental grubs were dying out from some unknown cause. In the Weyrholds across the continent, riders settled into normal lives. This went on throughout the long interval. No one believed that Thread or the Red Star would ever pose a threat again.

However, five turns before the Present Pass a small band of riders, and a weyrling gold banned together. The pulsating renegade planet was drawing dangerously close to their beloved Pern. They feared the worst, and began to train immediately. Their fellows laughed and taunted them, and ousted them.

Leaving them without a home. They seeked refuge in the ninth and final Ninth pass Weyrs shelter. The name Xanadu was forever lost in the records, so they renamed it to SeaBreezeWeyr. Then, five turns after, thread hit. All across the planet, there was mass destruction. Everyone was caught off guard with the exception of the small three hundred dragoned Weyr. They tried their best to keep everything alive, but even when they timed it and went between times, they could only do so much.

Pern was left with a scant population and even fewer of the much needed dragons. Ten gold dragons were still alive with their riders. Three of the nine Weyrs were quickly renovated and the rides moved from their comfortable accommodations on the southern continent into the less inviting rock Weyrs.

The riders weren't happy, but moved from their Tropical homes and well-settled Weyrholds. Since only the southern continent was occupied at the time...the rich and fertile lands called to nearly the whole of the Planet, only the southern Weyrs were reopened.

The gold queen, Xylenthenath had laid a precious golden egg and a Search was conducted among all remaining peoples. Moving into the sheltered Halls and Holds scattered through the planet, five girls were found.

When Hatching day came, Blade Impressed the little golden dragonet who called herself Quintesenth. But disaster struck the infant Weyr once more. The senior queen was struck down by some unknown draconic disease, leaving her only daughter, who was much too young, to take the position of leader. The queen dragon wasn't the only one to die - as one of Pern's other queens died as well...none of the other colors across Pern were spared, either.

Blade took the Weyrwoman's position with K'landrel as her Acting Weyrleader. The small Weyr lost dragons and received few transfers. It was nearly two and a half turns before the young senior Queen rose. But when Quintesenth rose, Tr'blen's bronze Gonth caught her in her maiden flight, thus winning his rider the Weyrleadership.

This stabled the Weyr, and they had high hopes for when the massive Weyr queen would clutch. There was much rejoicing when the first clutch numbered twenty-three. Gonth managed to keep his rider in the position of Weyrleader for many turns. That is, until A'dellan's Hulth flew Quintesenth in her latest flight. The clutch numbered the same as the first, only this time, there was a golden egg. A Search was conducted among all of the planet's remaining peoples in hopes of finding a rider for the unborn queen.

While the eggs hardend on the grounds of SeaBreeze Weyr, there is another reason for joy. One of Pern's few remaining queen dragons transfered. Kahlia and her golden queen, Kyranacaravyrith, who has yet to rise.

On the second day of the fifth month, fifteenth turn of the eleventh Pass, Quntesenth and Gonth's golden daughter hatched and chose a journeywoman weaver who goes by the name of Tamina as her rider. SeaBreeze Weyr now has three queens - and are awaiting the day that the Weyrwoman's Second's gold rises to mate.
